Salted Wounds (2023) explores the dichotomy between the beauty of the Great Salt Lake and the reality of the consequences that surround the lake. Two of the images are abstract while the others were composed in order to have more visibility of the images that are being used. These salt prints capture the tension between the lake’s aesthetic and the profound ecological consequences of its ongoing desiccation. The images of the deceased birds, despite their visual similarity, evoke the stark contrast between where a bird should soar in the sky and where they tragically end up, washed ashore on the lake's shores. The brine shrimp are also being affected by the shrinking of the lake, affecting their life cycle. One of the techniques used in this series is the overlaying of images. This process is symbolic of the overlapping realities that coexist within the Great Salt Lake. The juxtapositions in these images bring forth questions about the impact of human activity on fragile ecosystems.
